At Active MInds, we understand how important it is for men to talk mental health. That’s why this year, we will provide a unique space for male students to meet others who may be experiencing similar issues. Our vision is to break the taboo that men can’t have the more serious conversations with friends they meet through activities that may be completely unrelated to mental health, such as sport. Initially, sessions will run for 1hr 30mins, with 30 minutes of table tennis followed by an hour of sharing time with the help of our student facilitators. However, we look forward to building a group who will dictate how the group is run - for example, deciding which sport we want to open the session with each week. Our meetings are not intended to ‘solve’ all of our issues, but we believe opening up to people who are ready to listen can be the first step in helping ourselves to feel better. We hope our confidential, non-judgemental group will help our male students to take that step.
