Catherine has now left the SU to start a new and exciting job! Of course, we're sad to see her leave us early, but thrilled to see her take this next step in her career. We're working with your Faculty Presidents, Student Voice team, and the other full-time Officers to keep everything moving until Ellie, your 2025/26 Education Officer, takes over in June.
I'm from Newmarket in Suffolk, I studied Economics and Politics and I'm very excited to be SU Education Officer this year!
I have been on the exec of Durham Tenants’ Union, a society that helps students who have problems with their landlords, and Durham University Labour Club.
I was also in Durham University Orchestral Society throughout my degree where I played cello, oboe and cor anglais!
It should come as no surprise that whilst many of the problems facing us are unique, we still share common challenges. A lack of clarity about support and advice, a stressful and distracting housing crisis, and the cost of learning. All eroding the quality of learning and, overall, a bad deal for students. It doesn’t have to be like this, and I am passionate about solving it.
Change should be made by those directly experiencing the issues and this requires creating an environment where wider student participation can flourish.
