Tell students about yourself
In three words, I'd say forward-thinking, positive and a people-orientated individual. I'm a first-year Chadsian and a combined social science student from Leeds studying politics, philosophy, anthropology, and sociology. Known as the busy bee in college, I'm part of many societies like Just Love, Effective Altruism, Christian Union, 93% Club, and more. You can probably tell from my subject choices and societies that I also enjoy discussing current global affairs, identity, faith, and social justice.
If elected, what sort of Officer can students expect you be?
If elected, I would be a pragmatic and collaborative Officer, focused on building bridges rather than divisions. My empathetic leadership style ensures that all students feel heard and valued. I am passionate about amplifying student voices and always go above and beyond to drive meaningful change. As a Durham SU Content Creator, I’ve honed strong communication skills, which I would use to stay visible, approachable, and actively engage with the wider student body.
Why is this role important to you?
This role is important to me because societies are at the heart of the student experience. They provide opportunities for personal growth, a sense of belonging, and a break from academics. For me, joining societies has been transformative, helping me build connections and skills beyond the lectures. I want to ensure every student can easily access societies, equip society leaders with the tools they need, and create a strong foundation for societies to not only survive but thrive. My goal is to empower societies to foster lifelong skills and meaningful experiences for all students.
What is your pitch to students?
Societies are for everyone—you just need to find your fit! I’m passionate about fostering belonging and diversity while improving communication and leadership training for society execs. My priority is to make the SU a supportive hub for societies, encouraging cross-collaboration so they don’t just exist but truly thrive.
