Tell students about yourself
I am a first-year geography student from China. I am actively involved in the Hilde Bede International group and the Hild Bede Dance Society and Durham Christian Union. This is my second year studying in the UK and as an international student at Durham Foundation and Undergraduate, I understand the challenges of adapting to a new culture and education system and I am passionate about creating a welcoming environment for all students.
If elected, what sort of Officer can students expect you be?
Students can expect me to be a proactive, patient, and innovative Officer with a strong focus on cultural connection. I will introduce creative ways to engage students, such as interactive platforms and visual progress trackers, to make change tangible and inspire belief in its power. My approach will be inclusive, ensuring every voice is heard through regular feedback sessions and collaborative decision-making. With my organizational skills and passion for cultural integration, I will work tirelessly to build a vibrant and supportive community for all international students. I am committed to making Durham a more diverse and international university, where everyone feels a sense of belonging and their unique cultural backgrounds are celebrated. Together, we can create a campus that truly embraces diversity and fosters meaningful connections across cultures.
Why is this role important to you?
This role is extremely important to me because I have personally experienced the challenges of integrating into a UK university and deeply understand the struggles and aspirations of international students. Through the student union platform, I hope to build a bridge of belonging for international students. I not only want to help international students better understand British culture and integrate into university life, but also ensure their voices are heard and their cultures are appreciated. I envision Durham University becoming a more international and diverse campus, where every student feels accepted and valued. By improving induction processes, providing more resource support, and addressing cultural barriers, I aim to help international students adapt and find their place here.
What is your pitch to students?

I’ll work to create sustainable changes, ensuring every student feels at home. Let’s make Durham more inclusive and international together!
