International Officer Candidate (part-time)

Candidate Profile

Tell students about yourself

I am an Indian law student who has spent most of my life in Dubai, bringing a global perspective to my studies. A passionate cricket fan, I also play badminton for Hatfield—proudly known as the Hatfield Cocks. Beyond sports, I am an active member of the Durham Law Society and attend open events across various societies. Engaging with different disciplines helps me broaden my perspective, develop key skills, and make the most of Durham’s opportunities.

If elected, what sort of Officer can students expect you be?

If elected as International Officer, I’ll be a proactive and approachable advocate for international students. Having attended 11 different schools, I’ve developed a strong ability to adapt to diverse environments and connect with people from various backgrounds—an advantage I’ll bring to this role. I believe in making real, student-driven changes by listening to concerns and ensuring they translate into action. I’ll work to improve integration, support networks, and opportunities for international students, making Durham feel like home for everyone. With strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusivity, I’ll ensure international students are actively involved in shaping their experience here.

Why is this role important to you?

This role is important to me because I know what it’s like to adapt to new environments. Having lived in Dubai for most of my life and attended multiple schools, I’ve learned how to navigate change, connect with diverse communities, and embrace different cultures. But I also understand the challenges international students face—feeling out of place, struggling with integration, and sometimes lacking the representation they deserve.

As someone who plays college badminton, engages across societies, and thrives in diverse spaces, I want to ensure international students don’t just exist at Durham—they truly belong. I’ll push for stronger student-led initiatives, better cultural integration, and a more inclusive support system. International students bring so much to Durham, and I want to make sure their voices shape the experience, not just fit into it. If elected, I’ll work to make Durham a place where every international student feels at home.

What is your pitch to students?

Been the new kid enough times to make it easier for everyone else. I know the struggles of adapting to a new place—international students deserve real support, better integration, and a stronger voice in Durham. Vote for me, and let’s make ‘international’ feel like home!
