Candidate Profile

Tell students about yourself

I’m a second-year Law student from South College, Durham University. I serve as Vice President of the DU Bollywood Society, President of the South College Table Tennis Society, and Captain of the South College Mixed Badminton Team. Actively engaged in promoting inclusivity through my roles, I bring leadership, collaboration, and a passion for community-building to everything I do.

If elected, what sort of Officer can students expect you be?

If elected, I will be a proactive, approachable, and inclusive officer who prioritizes collaboration and student voices in decision-making. I aim to foster a supportive environment where everyone feels empowered to share their perspectives. My leadership roles as Vice President of DU Bollywood Society, President of the Table Tennis Society, and Badminton Captain have honed my skills in teamwork, advocacy, and organizing impactful initiatives. I will actively engage with student groups, champion equity and diversity, and work tirelessly to implement meaningful change that addresses student concerns and enhances their university experience.

Why is this role important to you?

This role is deeply important to me as a person of colour from India who has first-hand experience navigating issues of diversity and inclusion. My background and experiences drive my passion for creating equitable spaces where everyone feels represented and valued. As a student of Human Rights Law, I actively engage in equality debates and understand the systemic barriers many students face.

I want to see a Durham where all voices, especially those from underrepresented communities, are heard and celebrated. This means tackling barriers, amplifying the work of liberation groups, and fostering a culture of inclusivity across the University. I believe in actionable change, not just conversations, and want to use this platform to empower students, challenge inequalities, and ensure Durham is a welcoming place for all.

What is your pitch to students?

As a person of colour and a law student, I’m passionate about breaking barriers and fostering inclusivity. I’ll prioritize amplifying underrepresented voices, tackling systemic inequalities, and creating a supportive, diverse community. Vote for me to ensure every student’s voice matters, and together, let’s shape a more equitable Durham.
