Tell students about yourself
Hi, I’m Manik, a BSc Finance student from Dubai, and I’m passionate about making a real impact on student life. As a Course Rep for Finance and Student Co-Chair, I’ve worked closely with students and staff to improve the academic experience at Durham. I believe in strong student representation, collaboration, and ensuring our voices shape meaningful change. If elected, I’ll work to enhance academic support, communication, and opportunities for all students in our faculty.
If elected, what sort of Officer can students expect you be?
Students can expect me to be a proactive, approachable, and solutions-driven Faculty President. I believe in open communication and will ensure every student feels heard, valued, and represented. My approach will be hands-on—I’ll work closely with student reps, faculty staff, and the SU to tackle academic concerns, improve accessibility, and create a more engaging learning environment. With my leadership experience, I know how to advocate for real change. I’ll be a bridge between students and decision-makers, ensuring that policies and improvements reflect our collective needs and aspirations. Together, we can create a faculty that truly supports its students.
Why is this role important to you?
As a student leader, I’ve seen first-hand how crucial strong representation is in shaping our academic experience. Too often, student concerns go unheard, and I want to change that. This role is important to me because I believe every student deserves a voice in their education—whether it's about academic resources, feedback mechanisms, or faculty engagement.
I’ve already made an impact as a Course Rep for Finance and Student Co-Chair, but I want to take this further. I want to push for better academic transparency, clearer communication between students and staff, and more accessible learning opportunities. Beyond this, I want to ensure students have stronger career support, from internship guidance to networking opportunities, so we graduate feeling prepared for our futures. If elected, I’ll work hard to ensure student voices drive real change, making our faculty a place where everyone thrives.
What is your pitch to students?
I’m passionate about improving academic support, communication, and career opportunities to make student life better. Whether it’s clearer feedback, better resources, or more career guidance, I’d love to help create positive changes. Your experience matters, and I’d appreciate your support in making it even better!
